    The Coding Review Nurse, will be responsible for but not limited to:


    1. Collaborates with the visiting nurse to ensure that documentation of Oasis assessment, 485 and medication profile follows logically and accurately to determine appropriate use of skilled services.
    2. Determines whether or not the diagnosis is appropriate for the home care requirements of the patient as documented by the visiting nurse.
    3. Determines whether or not the documentation supports Medicare/Medicaid criteria for Home Care Services.
    4. Works closely with the Medical Records Coordinator to best coordinate work. Collaborates with the Executive Director and/or Director of Nursing on difficult issues.
    5. Demonstrates awareness of and adheres to safety and legal requirements pertinent to home health services under federal and state guidelines.
    6. Demonstrates awareness of corporate and Home Health Agency policies, and uses these as a basis for decision-making. Participates in the development of policies and procedures for home health services.
    7. Actively participates in JCAHO accreditation process by reviewing records in preparation for survey, as well as other activities as assigned. Assures compliance to regulatory agency requirements.  Participates in development of policies required for regulatory agencies.
    8. Follows all HIPAA regulations and ensures confidentially of the patient record.
    9. Demonstrates knowledge of performance improvement methods and participates in performance improvement initiatives in home health.
    10. Assists in educating the nursing staff regarding clinical documentation.
    11. Performs accurate coding of assessments for submission to payers for reimbursement.
    12. Attends staff/managerial meetings regularly.
    13. Makes skilled nursing visits as needed, in the event of significant agency needs. Demonstrates clinical expertise in the execution of the nursing process.


    Professional Experience:


    • Current New Jersey RN License
    • 2 years of home health care nursing experience, a plus
    • Experience in the Medicare process, Intermittent Home Care and the OASIS coding process
    • Comprehensive knowledge of OASIS and the Medicare Conditions of Participation for Home Health
    • Quality and Compliance background
    • Knowledge with Medicare STARS ratings system
    • Knowledge in ICD-10 coding processes, preferably certified
